MY PROCESS: I sand a piece of wood..Maple, Juniper, Cedar, Beechwood, etc., whatever I have on hand at the time.
I use a wood-burning tool to draw and texturize the surface of the wood. This is called Pyrography, which literally means "writing with fire".
Next, I apply India ink and fabric dye and colored pencils. The translucency of these mediums allows me to layer and build up color. The combination of burning and adding color is how I strive to achieve richness and depth in each piece.
I am always taking a visual dictation of my surroundings; I listen closely to the things I see. The intricate detail in my artwork is a result of my desire to record what isn't always obvious. My goal is to capture the essene of these things in the most beautiful way that I can.
